Review: Children of Blood and Bone

NAME: Children of Blood and Bone

AUTHOR: Tomi Adeyeni

GENRE: Fantasy, YA

MY RATING: 5/5

BLURB: Zélie Adebola remembers when the soil of Orïsha hummed with magic. Burners ignited flames, Tiders beckoned waves, and Zelie’s Reaper mother summoned forth souls.

But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, maji were targeted and killed, leaving Zélie without a mother and her people without hope.

Now, Zélie has one chance to bring back magic and strike against the monarchy. With the help of a rogue princess, Zélie must outwit and outrun the crown prince, who is hell-bent on eradicating magic for good.

Danger lurks in Orïsha, where snow leoponaires prowl and vengeful spirits wait in the waters. Yet the greatest danger may be Zélie herself as she struggles to control her powers—and her growing feelings for the enemy.

MY REVIEW: It has been so long since I read Fantasy and I think that’s partly why I loved this book EXTRA. I did not even know about such a book and I was quite clueless when it came to me in the mail. I received an uncorrected proof copy from Panmacmillan India (THANK YOU SO MUCH) and I devoured this book. It was exciting, enchanting, magical and mystical. I missed reading Fantasy si much.

This book, the world of Orisha, the protagonists, all of it was AMAZING. I fell in love with the world of Orisha and the plot of this book. Magic, power, atrocities, freedom the entire concept of this book was super unique, extremely FANTASY related and Ah, it was VERY WELL WRITTEN. There were different point of views of three different characters and it gave th book a really nice touch! This book taught me so much. The journey the protagonists travel, the rush of adrenaline while reading the book and the possibility of hope that Zelie will bring magic back and the possibility of her failing. THIS BOOK WAS GENIUS. And I feel that MAGIC was the strongest element of this book which is quite rare in other fantasy novels and the author described and used this element and created a whole new world!

Written in a way that gets the readers’ attention and keeps you hooked. A book like none other and a series that is SO PROMISING. Tomi Adeyemi has done a fabulous job with this beautiful book and I look forward to reading the next book in the series! I CANNOT WAIT. I really want to talk about the ending, it was GOOD. It was astonishing!

On the whole, this book was MAGNIFICENT and I would urge each and every one of you to go ahead and this profound book!

Review: Pashmina (Graphic Novel)

NAME: Pashmina

AUTHOR: Nidhi Chanani

GENRE: Fiction/Children’s Fiction, Graphic novel

MY RATING: 4/5

BLURB: Priyanka Das has so many unanswered questions: Why did her mother abandon her home in India years ago? What was it like there? And most importantly, who is her father, and why did her mom leave him behind? But Pri’s mom avoids these questions–the topic of India is permanently closed.

For Pri, her mother’s homeland can only exist in her imagination. That is, until she find a mysterious pashmina tucked away in a forgotten suitcase. When she wraps herself in it, she is transported to a place more vivid and colorful than any guidebook or Bollywood film. But is this the real India? And what is that shadow lurking in the background? To learn the truth, Pri must travel farther than she’s ever dared and find the family she never knew.

REVIEW: This book was adorable and the story was absolutely beautiful. I cannot even begin to describe how AMAZING the illustrations were. The author “Nidhi Chanani” has done an exemplary job with the illustrations. They look stunning and very, very real.

The book is about an Indian-American girl who is searching for her past, the reason why her mother left her homeland India and moved to the US and most importantly she wants to know who her father is and why her mother left him. So many questions that her mother refuses to answer. This book is a journey of self discovery, of adventure and most importantly of magic. A lovely book that is perfect for kids of the age group 5-11. But don’t let that stop you from reading this beautiful graphic novel. I mean, I ENJOYED IT SO MUCH even though I rarely read children’s books and I rarely read graphic novels. But this was an eye-opener you guys! I am going to soon start reading many more graphic novels. Pashmina ios book filled with love and so much magic. Reading this book reminded me of all the fairy tales I read as a kid and felt like anything was possible. This book gives you a sense of how beautiful simple things are. Reading book made me so happy. I look forward to reading more graphic novels written by “Nidhi Chanani”, her work is stunning!

I strongly recommend this book to young kids and if you’re just looking to read something light and positive, this book is for you! Don’t hesitate to pick this book up, it’s definitely, definitely worth a read. And the illustrations will for sure, take your breath away! A huge THANKS to the publishers harpercollins Indiafor a review copy of this lovely, lovely novel.

Here are some of the beautiful illustrations from the book:

Where am I with reading in 2017?

So, I dont know if you guys know  this but my reading challenge this year on goodreads was of a mere 25 books only! Because of school and now that I’m in  the ninth grade, life was getting hectic and I also had a tough time completing my last year’s goal but somehow I managed and so this year I decided not overestimate my reading speed/reading time and I went with 25 books only.

Half of 2017, was spent away from the online reading community and bookstagram. I practically had no free time and was only online to post the reviews of the few books I read. That was it, then school and everything got super hectic with exams so I was behind by 2 books 😬😬 unbelievable yes I know! So when my 20 day holidays began I decided to read 10 books, impossible again but I’m doing it, not very well i might add. I have 4 more books to go and about 3 days, so yeah I’m pushing myself but I’m not sure I’ll be able to complete it.

But i did finish 6 books, so its not that bad. Anyway, right now i I have one book left to complete my reading challenge for 2017, well that was kinda expected because it was just 25 books. But I really want to finish reading atleast 30 books, you know? Ahh, let’s see.

What about you? How far have you reached with your reading challenge? How many books did you plan to read this year?

NAME: Tape

AUTHOR: Steven Camden

GENRE: YA, Contemporary, fiction

RATINGS: 4/5

A very inspiring and lovely story about true love. I never really enjoy or really like love stories but this book was an exception.

A carefully written story about 2 individuals who have suffered great loss and try their best to  cope and in the process, finding love. I had never before read any of Steven Camden books, and I loved his writing in this, I honestly can’t wait to read other books by him.

An intriguing and unique tale about a connection beyond time, a discovery of love, the universe, fate and all that the world has to offer. A beautifully sad book, but it was really good. There were moments when tears came to my eyes and this book was totally worth it.

If You enjoy love stories or just want to read a good contemporary, this book is for you, definitely reccomend it to everyone! I loved it and I will surely reread it soon ❤

NAME: Perfect

AUTHOR: Cecelia Ahern

GENRE: Dystopian, fiction, YA

RATINGS: 5/5

“Life is not meant to be perfect”

Perfect, this was one of the most anticipated releases of 2017 for me and it did not Disappoint! I loved it.

Every single sentence, every quote was so meaningful, ahh it was just so…PERFECT! Cecelia Ahern is one of my favourite authors and that is after I read ‘Flawed’. I absolutely loved flawed and i was so excited when I got Perfect. It was just so amazing.

The story was intriguing to the very core. An epitome of brilliance. It was without a doubt one of the best books I have EVER READ. The protagonist Celestine North, was  the very symbol of bravery and an idol to everyone. She is by far one of my favourite female protagonists! I loved her character so much. She risked EVERYTHING for the falwed people. She showed extreme strength after all she went through.

Every character was well developed. Each incident in the book was well written and it not just was a very enthralling and good book, but it was something much more, it tells us so much. So many messages have been given to the world through this book.

People do make mistakes. But they learn from them. Nobody is perfect. We are all flawed.

This message was the very core of this duology! And I cannot agree more.

A very well thought of book, that I cherished with my whole heart. One, that I will never forget and one that will last forever.

The ending gave me all the feels, I was contented and happy and it was just very satisfying. One of the best endings ever!

Please do read this book, I promise you will love it. I did and I would definitely reread this book sometime. It was beautiful. I owe a huge, huge thanks to Harper Collins India for a review copy of this book!

Review: The Sins of The Father

NAME: The sins of the father

AUTHOR: Jeffery Archer

GENRE: Thriller, fiction

RATINGS: 4/5

This is the second book in the Clifton Chronicles! I loved the first book and it ended in this huge clifd hanger so I was way more than just excited to read the second part.

And yes, it was good! I really liked the development of the characters and the plot. Ot had advanced in a huge way from the first book. The second world war was jist about to begin an there harry was, with a new identity, so many possibilities and so many questions, all that were answered in this amazing sequel! Jeffery Archer is one of the greatest authors, and The Clifton Chronicles has made me love his writing! The book was flawless and yes, very intriguing.

All those cliff hangers, “ah” moments and those sharp intakes of breath! Wow, I loved this book. A perfrct portrayal of the lives of the people during the war. The loss, grief and sadness they felt for their loved ones knew no bounds. Those heroes, who selflessly died for their country!

This book showed huge amounts of emotion and so, so much of loss and love, it was beautiful in its very own way.

The ending was incomplete and that is one thing that jeffery archer always succeeds in doing, keeping his readers at the very edge of their seat and always leave them wanting and praying for the next book to just miraculously appear!

I think and believe that this book was exquisite and has surpassed ny expectations. A book that should be read by everybody! I urge you all to go read this beautiful book.

A huge, huge thanks to pan macmillan India for a review copy of this wonderful book.

Review: The Thousandth Floor

NAME: The thousandth Floor

AUTHOR: Katharine McGee

GENRE: YA< fiction, fantasy, sci-fi

RATINGS: 5/5

“The higher you are, the farther you fall”

This book was magnificent, and completely PERFECT! A book so unique that you lose yourself completely in it. I loved this book to the very last word. Every single aspect of this book was so intriguing and amazing, ah…. This book is now THE BEST book I’ve read in 2017 so far. And I just wonder why I didn’t pick it up earlier.

The start, unlike most books wasn’t monotonous but very much lively and thrilling from the first chapter. I loved how the author had written it from all the character’s point of view. It kept the book moving and upbeat. And it may seem odd to you guys, but sometimes I see the length of a particular chapter and if it’s too long I feel tired and kind of difficult while reading it. And well, with this book, I just couldn’t put it down! It was the MOST fun I’ve had reading any book.

I personally loved each character. The fact that the author pointed out that everyone had a good and bad side was really appreciable! I found myself enjoying this book so much, that I lost track of time and to be honest, I actually finished this book in just 2 sittings! I finished it practically in less than 3 days. The plot was extremely well prepared and thought of. It was an excellent cross between YA and sci-fi. Not to mention the intricacy with which the future world was described was fabulous. I could picture everything and it felt awesome.

My reaction….when I reached the end was….well hard to picture but lets just say there were shrieks and an open mouth ; ) anyways I finished the book about half an hour go and I really can’t wait for the second book….I honestly need it right now. The end was NOT AT ALL predictable to say the least, it was a shock and a surprise and well….read the book to find out!

A huge thanks to Harper Collins India for a review copy!

Guys, If you aren’t already ordering this book now, you really, really should! I hope this review makes you want to buy this book right this instant and if it doesn’t then I urge you to go read this futuristic and one of a kind book that I’m sure you’ll absolutely love!
