NAME: The secret History of Us
AUTHOR: Jessi Kirby
GENRE: YA fiction, thriller
MY RATING: 4/5
Olivia wakes up to realize she doesn’t remember. Not just the accident—but anything from the last four years. Not high school. Not Matt, the guy who is apparently her boyfriend. Not the reason she and Jules are no longer friends. Nothing.
That’s when it hits her—the accident may not have taken her life, but it took something just as vital: her memory. The harder she tires to remember things, the foggier everything gets, and figuring out who she is feels impossible when everyone keeps telling her who she was.
But then there’s Walker. The guy who saved her. The one who broke her ribs pumping life back into her lungs. The hardened boy who keeps his distance despite Olivia’s attempts to thank him.
With her feelings growing for Walker, tensions rising with Matt, and secrets she can’t help but feel are being kept from her, Olivia must find her place in a life she doesn’t even remember living.
I loved this book. It was intriguing, gripping and very interesting! I was so surprised that I literally finished the book in just 2 sittings under 24 hrs. It has never happened before and that is probably why I liked it so much?! I mean, I absolutely hate when books get way too long and monotonous but “The Secret History Of Us’, ah it was a quick an amazing read.
I loved the idea and how the story was played out from the beginning and slowly got deeper into the protagonist’s life. It was a highly fascinating book, which I absolutely could not put down! I expected the book to be so different but it pleasantly surprised me.
WHAT I LOVED:
The best part of the book for me was definitely the fact that it was extremely captivating and I was so into it, that I lost track of time. It was just one of those books, who transport you to a whole new world.
Ah, well this is one of the issues I had with the book. Don’t get me wrong, the ending was great but I just felt like it was a bit too rushed. I feel like the author could have kind of emphasized on the events leading to the ending and described them better, but on the whole, still a wonderful read!
You guys should definitely give this book a read if you enjoy light thrillers and mystery. I would highly recommend it if you are in a reading slump, because of the captivating nature of this book, you are bound to finish it quick and enjoy it. A huge thanks to Harper Collins India for a review copy : )
